Shahn joined CUNY SPH faculty with family connections to the institution. His father was a Hunter College professor, and his wife earned her MPH from CUNY. He completed postdoctoral work at Harvard School of Public Health under Jamie Robins and Miguel Hernan, and previously worked at IBM Research in healthcare applications.
